Monday is never a favourite day in the office, catching up on emails and customers or clients demanding your attention at the strike of 9.00 am, it is no wonder that most people dread Monday.  There are however ways of making your first day of the week an easier one, Unit Management have put together a few ideas to make Monday a little bit more likeable.

Plan

If you can try to plan each week on a Friday, work out what needs doing the following week and put it all down on paper. This will make you relax more over the weekend as you won’t have to think about it. Alternatively, give yourself 30 minutes on Sunday to plan your week, this will result in a better night’s sleep.

Rise Early

Dragging yourself out of bed on a Monday can be difficult, but getting up even half an hour earlier could mean you have to rush less and can take time over some breakfast or an extra cuppa. That more relaxing time can make the whole day feel better, avoid social media as online content is not always beneficial to your wellbeing.

Fix Some Lunch

Preparing lunches for the week over the weekend can give you valuable time on your lunch break. Instead of queuing for a sandwich you can have a healthy lunch ready to go, allowing you extra time to either go and sit outside if the weather is fine, or just chill in the restroom with a book or a colleague.

Get in Early & Stay Calm

If you can arrive at your desk a little early, you may get your emails checked and answered before you start the day. Alternatively, switch your lines to busy and catch up before anyone else requests your attention.

Avoid Social Media

When you have a lot on your plate it’s easy to not want to address everything that needs doing and just scroll through your phone looking at postings of friends online and cute dog videos. It pays to be disciplined and not go down that rabbit hole, time will get away from you if you do. Turn off your notifications and know that if someone really needs you, they will call.

Be Kind to Yourself

Ultimately, we all feel stressed from time to time, the most important thing is to be kind to ourselves. Take time out when you need it, know that the world will not come to an end if you are not at your desk 24/7. Talk to someone and get help if you feel overwhelmed, it may be that you just need to confide in a friend or family member.

Is it Monday or is it my Job?

Everyone has days that they don’t want to be at work, if you are very unhappy with what you are doing it may be time to reconsider your career path or goals. There are job opportunities out there for everyone so take the leap and see if there is something better that you find both enjoyable and rewarding. If you are running your own business look at any changes you can make to the way you work, maybe delegate more or restructure, there is always an answer somewhere.
